The inner/outer work journal
40 reflections for understanding yourself, your work, and the connection between the two.
What it is about
The way we show up, lead and make decisions shapes the businesses environment we create. Yet when workplaces struggle or business models are being disrupted, we almost always look outward: at structures, processes, metrics. The inner/outer work journal starts at a different point. With the humans, with you.
The journal grew out of my own experience of extreme pressure and burnout in consulting and agency environments, and out of my research on integrating inner work into contemporary workplaces.
Change starts within.
— Jane Goodall
I’ve been journaling since I was a young girl. But it was not a consistent habit. When I experienced burnout in my early 30s and was navigating my recovery and healing I realized that I had to start writing on a daily basis to stay hopeful and reflect on what I was experiencing.
The personal story of the Journal
Last year, just when I was finishing my MBA Thesis about how to make contemporary work environments more regenerative I had this idea. What if I would design a journal with that intention.
To hold space for people to reflect about their work experience, how it is interconnected with their inner experience and also inspire them to take action and shape what they want it to feel and look like.
How it works
The journal is your space to pause, reflect, and bring what you learn back into your work and life.
40 reflective entries guide you through five phases – Connect, Collect, Organize, Design, Integrate – from noticing, to recognising patterns, to concrete changes in how you work.
Before you start, you commit to a rhythm and time that fit your life and capacity. The journal is in English, but you can write in whatever language feels most natural to you.
We encourage you to use it together – with friends, colleagues or peers – to share the experience and support each other along the way.
